President Buhari: My wife should stay out of politics and take care of me.

Nigerian president Buhari has reiterated that his wife's place is in the kitchen and bedroom.
Contrary to claims by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu that the president was only joking when he told journalists about his wife " belonging to the kitchen, the living room and the other room", the president insisted that he meant what he said.

Speaking with Phil Gayle of DW, Buhari reiterated his position, saying the function of his wife was to take care of his home.

INTERVIEWER: Recently your wife criticized your choices for top jobs, and you responded by saying " i don't know which party wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room". What did you mean by that?

BUHARI: I am sure you have a house. You know where your kitchen is, you know where your living room is, i believe your wife looks after all of that, even if she is working.

INTERVIEWER: That is your wife's function?

BUHARI: Yes, to look after me.

INTERVIEWER: And she should stay out of politics?

BUHARI: I think so.

These comments from the president did not sit well with some Nigeria citizens as some prominent celebrities made mockery of the president's words. Nigeria Mid-fielder, Mikel Obi, said " Beside every great man is an even greater woman".
Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex president Goodluck Jonathan tweeted pictures of him kissing his wife with a caption : " This is me kissing my wife. She belongs by my side. I enter the kitchen to cook for her. She has added value to me".
