BURJ KHALIFA
Burj Khalifa, which happens to be the tallest building in the world was erected and completed in Dubai in 2009. The Khalifa isn't just a building with incredible hieght but one with so much beauty. Here are 10 amazing facts of the Burj Khalifa.
1. The building, originally called Burj Dubai was re-named in honour of the ruler of Abu Dhabi and President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyai. Abu Dhabi and the UAE government lent Dubai money( $80billion) to clear her debts.
2. The construction of this magnificent masterpiece required over 7,500 skilled workers to complete the Exterior in 5 years. The construction began in 2004 and ended in 2009.
3. There are over 57 Elevators, 8 Escalators and 2,909 stairs from the ground level to the 160th floor. The interior has more than 1000 pieces of art adorned along its lobby.
4. This record breaking masterpiece was built to garner more international recognition as Mohammed Bin Rashid wanted to put Dubai on the map with something really sensational.
5. It is revealed that without its spire( top crown) which is 244 metre high, the 828 metre Burj Khalifa building would drop to a substantially smaller 585 metre height. The spire was believed to have been constructed just to increase the height. But who cares?
6. From the ground floor through to the 108th floor, there are 900 private residential apartments which sold out within Eight hours of being opened on the market. Swimming pools are housed on the sky lobbies on the 43rd and 76th floor.
7. The burj khalifa water system supplies an average of 946,000L of Water per day through 100km of pipes. It's a freaking town.
8. It requires more than 3 months for 36 workers to clean the entire Exterior Facade comprising of over 24,348 glass windows.
9. The fountain which is illuminated by 6,600 lights and 50 coloured projectors was designed at a cost of $217million dollar. Burj khalifa also holds the record for the highest outdoor observation deck in the world when it opened its deck at the 148th floor.
10. In may 2008, Herve Le Gallou and David McDonnell, for the sole purpose of base jumping, dressed as engineers and illegally infiltrated Burj Khalifa and jumped off from its balcony below the 160th floor. I call that a death wish.
