Alexander The Great
Alexander III of macedonia, known as Alexander the great was king of the ancient kingdom of Macedon.
Alexander, son of king Philip, conquered the most powerful and feared nations of his time and his victories in battle were only matched by his quest to seek " the ends of the world". With an established nation and an experienced army along with the fact that he was tutored by the great philosopher "Aristotle", Alexander launched a military campaign against Asia and North east Africa, thereby forming one of the largest empires of the ancient world.
With so many mysteries surrounding his birth, it was obvious that he was destined for greatness.. Most notable, the myth which described a thunder bolt striking Plutarch's womb(Alexander's birth mother), causing a flame to spread far and wide before dying away. This caused many to believe that Zeus was the biological father of Alexander.
At the age ten, Alexander tamed a horse that refused to be mounted on, causing king Philip to order the horse away but Alexander detected that the horse was scared of its shadow, thereby taming it. king Philip, who was both astonished and glad told Alexander to find a bigger kingdom to rule because he thought Macedonia would be too small for his greatness.
While King Philip waged war against Byzation, Alexander at age 16 became regent and heir apparent of Macedonia. He repelled the attacks of Thracian Mardi, who revolted against Macedonia. Alexander also mustered an Army in Greece and mischievously deceived Greece by pretending to invade Illyria. when the Illyrians invaded Macedonia, He repelled their attacks and his fame grew.
in 336BC, Philip was assassinated by one of his bodyguards. Alexander at age 20 was proclaimed king. To secure his throne, He eliminated all potential rivals including his cousins thereby establishing himself to be feared and respected.
Being king now, Alexander launched an attack against Persia with an army of 48,000 soldiers and a fleet of 120ships with almost 40,000 crew members. Alexander wasn't one for a diplomatic rule, he believed fiercely in war. He showed his intent by throwing a spear on the Asia soil.
After defeating the Persian army and king Darius, he marched on to Syrian and defeated them. He massacred all men of military age and sold their women and children into slavery. He spared Jerusalem due to some foretold prophecy he heard most notably from Daniel chapter 8 about a mighty Greek king who would conquer the Persia Empire.
He swiftly attacked Egypt, though with heavy resistance at Gaza( the Pyramid), he came out victorious. With his accustomed tradition all men of military age were massacred and the women and children were sold into slavery.
After defeating Egypt, he turned his attention to Babylon and conquered it, finally defeating king Darius, Executing him. By defeating Babylon, he brought an end to the Achaemenid Dynasty.
His campaign against India wasn't fruitful since he couldn't compel his already exhausted soldiers to push on. He halt the campaign to reinforce and allow his wearied men to see their families.
Alexander developed a fever, which was so severe that he couldn't speak, which ultimately led to his death.
At age 32, Alexander had already formed the world most feared empire but it later crumbled due to the fact that he had no heir, coupled with his captain's mismanagement of the empire and the several civil wars after his death.
