The Ultimate Theory
The modern world today has seen a rapid development in technology and man's nature of thinking and science has taken a different advert to a new era when almost everything imagined can be achieved with the proper application of science.
But one thing that continues to elude scientists is the ultimate theory we call " Theory of Everything". Commonly called TOE or the Final theory, its viewed as the ultimate solution to man's problematic approach to science. TOE is an hypothetical, coherent and all encompassing theory of physics that fully explains all physical aspect of the universe. With such knowledge, man's concept of science will take a different turn. Godel believed that No matter how many problems
we solve, there will always be other problems
that cannot be solved within the existing rules. Stephen hawking made the same remark by quoting "Some people will be very
disappointed if there is not an ultimate theory,
that can be formulated as a finite number of
principles. I used to belong to that camp, but I
have changed my mind". However, if we give up this quest, then we betray ourselves as great scientists or philosophers since most of Earth's great achievement started with disbelief and some "jibber jabber jaggon critics" from people alike.
Though nothing comes easy, this theory is worth spending capital and time on. Though several famous scientists has made various attempts to solve this mystery.
The major problem with TOE is the fact that its almost impossible to fuse/combine General relativity and quantum field theory together. These two modern theories have been the pillars upon which modern physics stands on. General relativity is a theoretical framework that focuses on gravity for understanding the universe in areas of both large scale and high-mass: galaxies, planets, stars, asteroids. while Quantum field theory focuses on three non-gravitational forces for understanding the universe in areas of small scale and low mass: atoms, molecules etc. The three gravitational forces are weak, strong and electromagnetic force.
scientists has most times concluded that only one of these two theories can be used at a time since using both theories will not give a correct answer but individually, their accuracy is almost unrivaled.
The incompatibility between the two theories is a major issue in the regions of small scale and high mass such as those that exist within black hole or the big bang.
its generally believed that Archimedes was possibly the first scientist to describe nature with principle and got answers from it. Democritus, using the unified nature of atoms in motion deduced the concept of "atoms, this led to atomism ( the collision of atoms). This theory believed that nature responds to atoms in contact before reaction takes place. But with the invention of the universal gravitational theory, sir Isaac newton was able to prove this theory wrong by proving that not all forces in nature results from things coming together( gravity). Isaac newton combined Galileo's work on terrestrial gravity and Kepler's law of planetary motion along with the tides phenomenon.
The search for TOE brought about a renewed interest with the theory of gravity ( general relativity) postulated by Albert Einstein. He strongly believed that the " strong, weak and Electromagnetic force" ( quantum theory) exist but in his days, there was no such belief.
After Einstein's death, the weak, strong and Electromagnetic forces were discovered in a nuclear reaction. This sparked more interest but till date, no one can fuse general relativity with quantum physics.
But there is great hope for all scientists and inspired ones, a theory has been developed that may give insight on how to get the TOE, this is called string theory. Though its still being developed, its opening up some of earth's mystery and we believe in time, TOE will be achieved.
