Shimon Peres, a prominent political figure passed away yesterday at age 93, two weeks after suffering a stroke.
Shimon peres, who served as prime minister of Israel twice and later as the country ninth president was one of Israel defining political figures and a noble peace prize laureate.
From a young age, he was renowned for his oratorical brilliance and was hand picked as a protege by Israel's founding father, David Ben Gurion. He was once considered as a "hawk" and later a "dove" due to his strong support for peace through economic co-operation. In may 1923, Shimon peres was born in Poland and immigrated with his family to what was then called Palestine. However, a few members of his family remained behind and were killed in the Holocaust
At age 20, he was elected to the haNDar HaOved veHaLomed national secretariat, which happened to be his first political post. A first of many. Several years later(1948), he was appointed to head the naval service when Israel received independence and was responsible independence and was responsible for personnel and arms purchases , a post assigned to him by David Ben Gurion. He became the youngest person to hold a position as the Director General of the Ministry of Defence.
He was instrumental in securing massive amount of quality arms that helped to turn the balance of power in the region, and he helped negotiating the france-Israel agreement for a military offensive during the time isreal had decided upon war with Egypt in 1956
For more than six decades of his political life, he served in every major position in isreal government and in the opposition. the most notable offices were: As member of the kneeset, Minister of transportation, Minister of finance, Minister of france, Minister of defence, Minister of Foreign Affairs, 8th Prime minister of Israel, and the 9th president of isreal.

Barrack Obama, the US president, led the tributes as leaders past and present mourned the passing of Mr Peres.
"There are few people who we share this world with who change the course of human history, not just through their role in human events, but because they expand our moral imagination and force us to expect more of ourselves. My friend Stimon was one of those people", Mr Obama said in a white house statement.
The clittons said "they had lost a true and treasured friend and that isreal had lost a leader who championed its security, prosperity, and limitless possibilities from his birth to his last day"
For many isreals, Mr Peres was more than a politician, he was one of the last founding generation of isreal who helped established the jewish state. Through all his seven years as president he continued to call for a two state solution even as many isreals soured on the idea."
"There is no other solution, peace for isreal is not just a strategic choice. it is a moral call which stems from the depth of our heritage"Mr Peres once said.
